Synopsis

“There would be no happy ending for us. He was too damaged. I was too broken.”

Two years ago, Lorrie’s mother was murdered. But that wasn’t the end of it. Reeling from the tragedy, Lorrie’s father spiraled into alcohol, depression, and finally suicide.

The two most important people in Lorrie’s life are both gone but she’s still alive.
Trying to recover from the tragedy, Lorrie returns to campus, ready to pick up the pieces of her life. All Lorrie wants is to get back to “normal.”

Then she meets Hunter. The man, the legend, “the Hammer.”

Hunter is a cage fighter who takes on every fight like he’s got nothing to lose. His life is a tangled mess of girls, booze, and fist fights. And while it may seem like he’s got a devil-may-care attitude, he’s fighting a private cage-match with a monster he can’t defeat.

"There's no Rocky montage for overcoming obstacles in life. Not for me.  Or anyone else.  I've seen the best fall.I've seen my own dad lose after fighting so hard, struggling for so long.  Can't you see, Hunter? It's not that I don't want to get hurt.  It's that I can't.If I do, it's over.  It's all over for me."-Lorrie

Lorrie knows that Hunter is the exact type of guy she should stay away from, especially in her fragile state, but Hunter has other ideas.

As Hunter and Lorrie grow closer together, will they be able to overcome their pain and heal each other? Or will they both end up wrecked?

Review

Wow....you want to talk about angst and a nervous stomach....the last 25% of this book had me choking up just ready to burst into tears. From the beginning of the book, you can feel the underlying tones of a heartbreak to come, even though I was surprised it turned out the way it did.

"We're both drowning, Hunter." I sobbed, trying to push himaway but he held me tightly.  "I'm flailing like an idiot and I'm just going to pull you down withme! We're both going to drown, can't you see that? I can'tdo that to you, Hunter..."-Lorrie

Yeah, there were times where Lorrie really got annoying. It's the typical, "Oh, I can't get into a relationship because I'm so screwed up but I'll just string you along." "My life is so bad." Yeah, she was selfish and I know - I know that she doesn't know the whole story, but come on, she had to know how much Hunter wanted to make her happy.

She's insecure and is constantly jumping to the wrong conclusion while Hunter wants nothing more than just to love her. Man, I wanted to slap that bitch and give her a wake-up call. While, Hunter, my sweet Tat and Muscle man, I just wanted to lick his whole body. mmmmhhmmm....

I just loved the scene in the bathroom during breakfast time...I had to laugh because I have never read a scene like that in a book.....very very creative!

Well, we have Lorrie who is back at college after suffering through her mother's murder and her father's suicide. She just wants a normal life without the numbness - she doesn't have the strength for relationships and gossip. That is until a knight in shining armor saves her from a mishap. Not only is this guy gorgeous with muscles upon muscles but he has a sensitive side - OH...and did I mention that he is a MMA fighter??

Hunter wants Lorrie - he wants her so much that he agrees to just a friendship but it is a constant battle with Lorrie's jealousy. She is conflicted whether it is okay to get into a relationship with a "bad boy" who has a "playboy" persona.

Hunter was unlike any guy I'd ever met - or probablywould ever meet.  He was a walking contradiction:  fierce yet tender, strong but damaged.
Just when things are going great with Hunter and Lorrie since they started dating, Lorrie gets a shock from her past and Hunter is MIA. Rumors are floating around school which gets Lorrie running for the hills.

There is a secret that Hunter is holding back from telling her and it may just have ruined their relationship....

Wrap Up

The story started out great and had my attention but by the middle, it did get a bit slow but man oh man....as soon as you get to about 70% - wow....the book flies!! It is angst moment after moment!!

Plus this ends with a major cliff-hanger.....one that has me dying for the next book!
